Here we go!
Right then so having taken some time, I've assembled a draft of the game document
To start with, I'm going to define a few terms:
MVP: Minimum Viable Product - The bare minimum the game needs to be successful and be ready for a major version change.
APT: Advanced Persistent Threat - In terms of cybersecurity, these are organized adversaries, usually funded by nation states, that do their best to remain undetected and entrenched in an enemy's systems. Targets include governing bodies, critical infrastructure, and military installations. In terms of gameplay, this represents difficult waves of attacks that can strike any time after Year 1. This may take the form of a minigame.
QTE: Quick Time Event - Press button, or buttons, in rapid succession in order to prolong your game and prevent failure.
- - -
MVP: Fast paced upgrade game where you are in charge of making enough money to meet or exceed a revenue goal.
Story: You are a new cyber professional, and you received an offer to work at a company as a cybersecurity analyst. You are put in charge of responding to user phishing reports, which makes you money. You can use this money to upgrade your workstation and the workstations of the users you are in charge of. Survive 5 years and you can retire (end game), or move on to a new company.
I plan to add the following features:
APTs can target you
On-Call Rotation (5 minutes of QTE)
Yearly Review (money multiplier)
Certifications
Tickets
Random Geological/Social/Political Events
Enterprise Software Purchase
Enterprise Software Deployment
The ability to engage in blackhat activities to attack a rival company. (Skilled high risk high reward minigame)
Malware/Ransomware/Viruses
Rent/Upkeep
Promotions
Insider Threats?
Win state: Survive 5 years
Lose state: Fail to survive 5 years
Also each year you get more things you're in charge of. And yes, you must still respond to phishing. Because of course.
When you start at a new company after prestiging, you can provide 'strategy cards' to the company, which will have an overarching effect on your 5 year run.
There will be no monetization in-game because I will not sell power and no ads either. If you like the game, you are free to donate. Please do not feel obligated to do so.
